Stevens Towing completes Swan Island Oyster Sanctuary Project

The Swan Island Oyster Sanctuary Project entailed loading 30,600 tons of limestone marl from NCDMF South River Facility in Beaufort, NC and discharging it in the Pamlico Sound near the mouth of the Neuse River. Our 260′ x 50′ deck barge, Church Creek was loaded by dump trucks with 1,000 tons of limestone, and our tug, Island Express shifted the barge to the discharge location where it was unloaded by an excavator. We were pleased to work with the North Carolina Coastal Federation in partnership with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries on this project.
