Proud to have played a role in the successful completion of the Wando Toe Wall Project!

As South Carolina Ports prepares to accommodate deeper and larger container vessels, Stevens Towing was honored to provide towing services for this critical infrastructure upgrade. With the Wando Welch Terminal now the deepest harbor on the U.S. East Coast at 52 feet, we’re excited to see the Port of Charleston continue to break records.

@ChathamAreaTransit Authority’s (CAT) newest ferries, Juliet Gordon Low II and Susie King Taylor II, recently made their way to Savannah, and Stevens Towing was thrilled to play a key role in their journey!

Stevens Towing was hired to provide a turnkey solution for the delivery of the new ferries from Elizabeth, NJ to Savannah, GA. With our strong relationships nationwide, we called on some of our trusted maritime partners to assist with the loading, securement, and discharge of the ferries.

This turnkey solution made it seamless for our customer and allowed them to focus on their specialty of building vessels knowing that the logistics of delivering them was in good hands.

Stevens Towing dry-docked a 286’ x 62’ x 27.5’ 6600-yard hinged dump scow for a major overhaul. After weeks of hard work, the project successfully launched in January!

The scope of work included:
⚓ Cropping and renewing 55,000 pounds of steel on the bottom shell, side shell, internal structures, dump bin, and main deck.
⚓ Installing 220 feet of new hydraulic piping, couplings, and fittings.
⚓ Fabricating a new house to accommodate a new deck-mounted hydraulic skid that will serve as the vessel's new power plant.
⚓ Adding new cylinder pins, hydraulic hoses, and stainless safety cables.
⚓ Completing a full blast and paint of the entire barge.

Thanks to our team’s dedication and round-the-clock efforts, the scow is now dockside receiving final touches, including the arrival and installation of rebuilt cylinders. We are proud to have delivered this extensive project on time and appreciate our client’s trust in Stevens Towing!

The M/V Kraken, a 118-foot, 510-ton steel catamaran, is undergoing an exciting transformation from a research vessel to a foreign-flagged passenger vessel. Powered by a twin jet drive propulsion system, the Kraken is receiving critical upgrades, including jet drive rebuilding, bottom shell steel repairs, and surface preservation.

We’re excited to help prepare this impressive vessel for its next adventure! 🌊

The new Harrell Family Park in Meggett, SC will preserve 160 acres of waterfront beauty along Oyster House Creek and Wadmalaw Sound. This incredible space will offer opportunities for paddle sports, fishing, birdwatching, and more. 🛶🌳

As neighbors to this special land, we appreciate being able to assist with a project that enhances our community and protects the Lowcountry we all love.

The Harrell Family Park project partners include the Open Space Institute (OSI), the Town of Meggett, the South Carolina Conservation Bank (SCCB), and the Charleston County Greenbelt Program.

Paul leads our electrical team ensuring top-notch service for shipyard customers and our tug fleet. He is a seasoned electrical engineer with over 32 years of experience, and holds certifications including NMEA Advanced Marine Installer, GROL with Radar Endorsement, and E-Hazard High Voltage.

His impressive career includes pivotal roles at the @scport where he contributed to the design and management of port infrastructure and critical systems for STS Cranes and RTGs.

Break through the fog to take a trip around The Island Boy tug, set up on our Marine Travelift 820CII (820 metric ton/1,804,000 lbs. capacity).

Built in 1967, this 60’3”” x 24’ push boat is a workhorse of the Charleston Harbor. With 1,200 HP, a max draft of 8’8””, and a fuel capacity of 16,000 gallons, the Island Boy plays a key role in local operations, including Nucor Steel lightering.

Stevens Towing’s Pier K facility located in Charleston, SC recently played a key role with @nexanslan, one of the world’s largest cable manufacturers, for a major subsea cable operation. The Stevens 2502 barge, equipped with a 3,000-ton cable turntable, was spooled with subsea cable and shifted from Nexans’ manufacturing facility to Pier K. Our shipyard team completed topside modifications before transloading the cable onto the Nexans Skagerrak, a specialized cable-laying vessel.

A key milestone for this project: Pier K is now under a facility security plan, thanks to collaboration with the local @uscg Sector Charleston. This allows us to host foreign-flag vessels and support more global projects.

This project with Nexans took coordination from teams around the world, and we’re proud to play a role in connecting what’s beneath the sea.
